Ingredients
Vanilla Cake
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.25 tsp baking soda
- 2.75 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1.5 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg whites
- 3 tsp vanilla extract
- 1.5 cups milk
Strawberry Sauce
- 1 lb strawberries, pureed
- 0.5 cups sugar
- 0.75 tsp vanilla extract
Whipped Cream & Assembly
- 2.75 cups heavy whipping cream, cold
- 1.5 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 2 lbs strawberries, chopped
Steps
Vanilla Cake
- Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease a 9x13 pan.
- Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
Set aside.
- Beat butter and sugar on medium for 2 minutes, until light and fluffy.
Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- Add egg whites and vanilla, beat on medium until smooth and well
combined.
- Add a third of the flour mixture, beat until incorporated.
- Add half the milk, beat until incorporated.
- Add another third of the flour mixture, beat until incorporated, scraping the
sides as needed.
- Add the remaining milk, beat on medium until incorporated.
- Add the remaining flour mixture, beat until well combined, scraping as needed.
- Bake 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool.
Strawberry Sauce
- Add pureed strawberries, sugar, and vanilla to a medium saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat until it begins to boil, stirring occasionally.
- Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Whipped Cream & Assembly
- Add heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla to a mixer
bowl. Whip on high until stiff peaks form.
- Layer in a trifle dish: cake, half the chopped strawberries, half the
strawberry sauce, and half the whipped cream.
- Add a second layer of cake, strawberries, and sauce. Pipe the remaining
whipped cream on top in swirls and garnish with additional strawberries.
